What is a Venue?

A venue appears on most legal documents. A venue lists the State and County that the document was executed in. The county shown in the venue should always state the actual county the signing of the document took place in and not the county of the notaries commission (unless they are the same). Quite often the letters "SS" are shown next to the venue. "SS" is an abbreviation for the Latin word scilicet meaning "namely" or "in particular." Do not write a Social Security number next to the letters "SS."   Here is an example of a venue:
