What does it mean to ADMINISTER an OATH/AFFIRMATION?
In laymen terms the oath is a verbal acknowledgement of a truth. A person who knowingly lies when under oath or affirmation has committed perjury. A sample of an oath would be; "Do you swear that the information contained in this document which you have signed before me is accurate and true, so help you God?" A sample of an affirmation would be; "Do you affirm under the pain and penalties of perjury that the information in this document which you have signed before me is accurate and true?" The only difference between an oath and an affirmation is the swearing to a higher power or God. Regardless of which method used, the signor of a document must answer "yes" or "i do."
