Can a Notary specify what form to use to notarize a document?

Opinion 41 specifies NJ Notary Public cannot draft, prepare legal documents, nor give advice on law as this would be considered the “Practice of Law”. This includes rendering assistance by giving advice or by preparing, reviewing, analyzing, or completing any forms, writings, pleadings, or other documents in person, in writing, electronically or otherwise. If a member of the general public is asking you any type of legal advice, we strongly urge you to suggest that they contact an attorney.

If a person does not know if they should attach an acknowledgement or a jurat to a document, the best thing to do is shown the person both, and then allow them to decide.
